Kota Kinabalu
Once home to pirates and warlords, Borneo's north coast remains largely untouched by tourism. Kota Kinabalu combines modern high rises and gorgeous beaches, bustling markets and sleepy waterfront cafes. The mountains inland are one of the last refuges for the wild orangutan, while rare sea turtles nest in secluded Turtle Islands Park.
