Day 1AccraInternational flight arrives in Kotoka Airport in Accra.

Day / evening at leisure. Transfer to hotel for overnight.

Day 2AccraAfter breakfast, depart on a full day sightseeing tour of Accra and vicinity.

Visit the W.E.B. Du Bois Center for Pan African Culture. See Independence Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial (the mausoleum of Ghana's first President).

Continue to the National Theater to see a display of traditional instruments and carvings including "male" and "female" handcrafted drums. Visit the National Museum where you will see traditional crafts and ethnographic displays among other unique items.

Visit Makola Market and Calabash Ventures where you may purchase woodcarvings, jewelry, clothing, and other items. Select traditional handcrafted fabrics and be fitted for custom-made Ghanaian style garments (optional, at own expense).

Day 3ACCRA / CAPE COASTAfter breakfast, travel along the beautiful coastal road to the historic Cape Coast. En route pass through the villages of Winneba, with its busy fishing harbor; Apam, with its colorful fishing boats, Mankessim, known for its large posuban shrine; Saltpond, home of Fort Amsterdam, where jazz musician Louis Armstrong has traced his roots; Anomabu, home to several posuban shrines; and Biriwa, famous for its excellent beach.

Make several stops for photo opportunities, and relax at Biriwa Beach before continuing to Cape Coast.

Day 4Cape CoastContinue to Cape Coast Castle and the Castle Museum for a guided tour. Cape Coast Castle is another restored UNESCO World Heritage Site, and was one of the departure points for Africans being sent to the Americas. The castle is home to the infamous Door of No Return.

Time permitting, have lunch at the Castle Restaurant (at own expense).

Tour Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in 1482. This castle was the first European structure in sub-Saharan Africa. Of special interest are the slave dungeons, the auction market and the Portuguese Church. A visit to the Elmina fish market ends todays program.

Day 5KumasiEarly morning, visit Kakum National Park. Kakum is one of Ghana's most famous parks. Take a brief walking tour on the forest floor where you will learn how our ancestors lived in the forest.

See birds, butterflies, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the forest's over 40 species of mammals including monkeys and the reclusive forest elephant. Proceed to the canopy walk.

Kakum is home to Africa's only aerial walkway through the tree canopy, a 1000 foot long, seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above ground.

Before leaving Kakum, enjoy a refreshing drink from a fresh coconut opened just for you.

In the afternoon, visit Mesomagor village to see the Nyamebekyere Kukyekukyeku Orchestra play traditional music on handmade bamboo instruments.

Depart to Kumasi for overnight.

Day 6KumasiVisit Ashanti craft villages starting with the woodcarving village of Ahwiaa, known for the talented craftsmen who fashion royal stools, walking sticks and fertility dolls from wood. You will have the opportunity to purchase hand carved items of all kinds.

Our next stop is the village of Ntonso where artisans hand-stamp patterns on cotton cloth to make adinkra textiles. You will learn how the black dye is made in the village from the bark of trees, and create your own adinkra sash to take home. You may also purchase large pieces of adinkra cloth handmade in the village.

Our final village is Bonwire, where the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms in a time-honored tradition passed down through generations. You will see the kente weavers in process of creating kente cloth in various styles, and have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs or gifts.

Day 7KumasiAfter breakfast we will continue the tour of Kumasi with a tour of the former home of Nana Yaa Asantewaa, the legendary female general who led Ashanti Armies against British Forces in 1900

Later in the afternoon, continue to see the Okomfo Anokye Sword, an important symbol of Ashanti unity that marks the spot where the Golden Stool descended from the sky and has been in place for 300 years. Legend says the Ashanti Kingdom would collapse should the sword ever be removed. Visit Manhiya Palace, which remains in use by the Asantehene today and houses a small historical museum. Disputes are still settled in accordance with the centuries old customs, and the Asantehene (the Ashanti king) has the final word.

Continue your tour of this historic city with visits to the National Cultural Center which includes the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, named for the former Asantehene (ruler of the Ashanti people) Nana Osei Agyeman Prempreh II. Exhibits include what is said to be a replica of the famed Golden Stool, which is believed to have descended from the sky and is the spiritual symbol of the Ashanti people.

Day 8MOLEToday visit the Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, where Colobus and Mona Monkeys, considered sacred, live in harmony with the community. You will see the monkeys hopping through the treetops, eating, feeding their young or just sitting and passing the time in the village.

Continue to Kintampo Falls, a spectacular 80 foot waterfall. Your guide will take you on a brief hike through the forest explaining the mystique of the falls. After walking down 152 steps to reach the base of the falls, you will get close enough to feel a light mist on your face.

Continue on our drive through rough terrain for a visit to the largest Nature Park in Ghana, Mole National Park. Viewing en route the Savannah grassland, fascinating architecture sparsely dotted along the way. You will notice the obvious contrast in cultures and lifestyles between the Southern and the Northern regions of Ghana.

Day 9Mole National ParkAfter breakfast take a foot safari, accompanied by the park's experienced guide in search of elephants, hippos, buffalo, crocodiles and other animals which you may see at surprisingly close proximity.

Visit village of Larabanga to admire the ancient mosque and traditional architecture.

This afternoon relax on your veranda where you may observe antelopes, warthogs, baboons and birds drinking and bathing at the nearby water holes.

Day 10TamaleAfter breakfast, depart Mole National Park for Tamale. Visit the large central market of Tamale, and watch the Gonja cloth weavers at work. See the Grand Mosque, and visit the Zongo tannery where leather is made from sheep, goat, and cow hide.

Day 11HoDepart Tamale for Wli Falls (also known as Agumatsa Falls), known as the highest waterfall in West Africa. A trail through the forest leads you the base of falls, where you will hear the chirping of dozens of fruit bats that call the falls home.

Continue to Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, where you will have the opportunity to observe Mona monkeys quite closely. Continue to Ho for overnight.

Overnight at Chances Hotel Or Similar

Day 12Ada FoahTravel to the coastal area where the Volta river meets the sea at Ada Foah. You will pass through several villages of interest where we will make several brief stops. Villages include: Nkawkaw, Koforidua, Somanya, Afienya and Dawenya. Check into Manet Paradise Beach Resort where you may enjoy water sports or just relax at the beach or poolside.

Day 13AccraSpend the day on Volta Lake in a small boat with stops at several small islands. Continue to Accra for overnight.
