7 days San Gimignano to Siena
Cycle through Tuscany's timeless countryside, Visit hilltop towns and villages, See Siena's outstanding medieval architecture, Count San Gimignano's picturesque towers

The area you are visiting is the central part of Tuscany - a landscape characterised by medieval hilltop villages and scattered cypres trees, undulating vineyards and olive groves. Its gently rolling hills are familiar as the classical backdrop of Renaissance art. Its charm is a changelessness, which merges medieval and modern worlds. The route takes you along ancient paths and dirt tracks, past Tuscan farms and vineyards, culminating in the magnificent medieval city of Siena.

Itinerary
DayDestinationDescription
Days 1-2San GimignanoA ride around the City of Towers is a good way to take in the rich architecture. San Gimignano is also well-known for its salamis, cheeses, sweet biscuits and wines so stock up before you take off on your bicycle.
Day 3San Gimignano to Colle Val d'ElsaIt's a long but gradual climb across the hills, before a descent through woods to the Colle Val d'Elsa, a walled riverside town with a network of fascinating tunnel streets. Famous for its production of beautiful crystals, be sure to take some home or at the very least, visit the Museum of Crystal.
Day 4Colle Val d'Elsa to MonteriggioniThe tiny town of Monteriggioni has hardly changed since the Middle Ages. A winding road through farms and meadows takes you past a lovely Romanesque church before it enters Monteriggioni's walls.
Days 5-7Monteriggioni to SienaCycle through forests, over open farmland, past castles and savour the stunning views. Tackle the wooded slopes of Monte Maggio, and gently descend into the medieval splendour of Sienna. Spend a free day seeing the sights, and of course, shopping.
