Arrive and transfer to Hotel Barcelo San Jose Palacio. (5 stars). Orientation and briefing on next days activities. | | Day 2 | Arenal | SAN JOSE-ARENAL : Scenic drive with your tour guide to Arenal Volcano, stop en route at La Paz Waterfall Gardens for an up close view at a system of 5 different waterfalls and also for lunch. After lunch continue to Arenal. Dinner and overnight at the Arenal Observatory Lodge or similar. From the Observatory, which is situated only 1.6 miles south of the volcano, visitors have an impressive view of this "giant which rumbles" and erupts with spectacular displays of vapor and lava. The Observatory is the only one situated within the Arenal Volcano N.Park, which encompasses thousands of acres of pristine rainforest and teems with tropical birds and wildlife. (B,L,D) | | Day 3 | Arenal | ARENAL-CANO NEGRO-ARENAL : Full day trip from the Observatory Lodge to the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge which involves a 2 hour drive through farms and citrus groves to thetown of Los Chiles where you board a riverboat for an exciting trip down the Rio Frio to the refuge of Cano Negro. Lunch picnic style on the River Banks then return to dock for drive back to the Lodge. (B,L,D) | | Day 4 | Monteverde | ARENAL-MONTEVERDE : Next morning enjoy a hike to a nearby waterfall and a close-up exploration of a lava flow. Mid-morning departure, driving around Lake Arenal continue on to visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, one of the most diverse and richest tropical cloud forests in the New World. It is best known as home to the Resplendent Quetzal but has hundreds of other birds, mammals and plant species. Overnight in Monteverde at Hotel Fonda Vela or similar.(B,D) | | Day 5 | Monteverde | MONTEVERDE : Morning hike thru the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve viewing the misty forest with its dense vegetation and majestic trees. In the afternoon, you may go back to the Reserve with your guide or if you prefer you can wander out on your own to enjoy one of the many optional activities available in the area. Overnight Fonda Vela or similar. (B,D) | | Day 6 | San Jose | MONTEVERDE-SAN JOSE : On the final day visit the Ecological Farm a lower elevation belt of regenerating forest where you will have the chance to see a different variety of plants and animals like the 2 toed Sloth, Coati and monkeys.
